The different types of stone setting
Ring “balade des oiseaux”
In handcrafted jewelry, the choice of setting is a crucial step. It not only determines the security of the stone, but also influences how light passes through the material and integrates into the piece's overall design. At the atelier, each technique is chosen to create a perfect balance between the metal's structure and the stone's brilliance.
The bezel setting
collection “couronne”
The bezel setting consists of completely surrounding the periphery of the stone with a thin sheet of precious metal, which is then pushed over to secure it. This technique offers the most absolute protection against daily bumps and scratches, as no edge of the stone is left exposed. Visually, it brings a great modern touch to the jewelry by creating a clean, geometric, and sleek line.
The prong setting
collection “branche”
The prong setting is the most traditional and effective technique to maximize the brilliance of a faceted stone. The stone is held in place by several slender pillars of metal, called prongs, leaving its sides and lower section fully exposed. This structural openness allows light rays to pass through the stone from all angles, thus releasing all of its natural radiance.
The grain setting
collection “hortensia”
The grain setting is used to secure very small stones next to one another in order to cover a surface. The jeweler coaxes tiny beads of metal directly from the body of the piece, then pushes and rounds them using a specific tool to form small grains that hold the gems in place. This creates a shimmering pave effect where the metal seems to fade away in favor of a continuous carpet of light, bringing a very precious and vibrant texture to the jewelry.
The flush setting
collection “galet”
The flush setting consists of embedding the stone directly into the thickness of the metal, so that its upper surface sits perfectly level with it. The metal is then pressed all around to secure the gem almost invisibly, without any extra thickness or relief. The jewelry thus maintains a completely smooth surface, soft to the touch, where the stone seems to become one with the material.
