WHAT IS GOLD GILDING?

Gilding consists of applying a thin layer of gold onto a metal base, generally brass or silver. This process combines durability and brilliance while offering accessible creations.

Carried out with precision and care, artisanal gilding guarantees a refined finish and a warm glow that is characteristic of handcrafted jewellery.

THE STEPS OF ARTISANAL GILDING

Each piece, carefully polished and finished beforehand, is first immersed in a degreasing bath to remove any impurities. Between each step, it is thoroughly rinsed in demineralised water to ensure a perfectly clean surface.

A pre-gilding step then ensures optimal gold adhesion: the jewellery is immersed in a bath where the gold deposit occurs through electrolysis.

This is followed by the main gilding bath and a second bath to achieve the final colour.

Finally, the piece is rinsed once more and gently dried, ready to reveal its brilliance.

HOW TO PRESERVE THE BRILLIANCE OF YOUR GILDED JEWELLERY

To maintain the beauty of the gilding, it is recommended to avoid contact with water, perfume, or cosmetic products. Storing your jewellery away from humidity will help preserve its shine and intensity over time.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF GILDING

The gilding of our jewellery ranges between 1 and 3 microns. However, there are several types of gold plating, mainly distinguished by the thickness of the layer of gold applied to the piece. This thickness, expressed in microns, determines durability, resistance, and the intensity of the colour.

Flash: approximately 0.5 micron

Gold plating: approximately 1 micron

Gold-plated (Plaqué Or): from 3 microns

Vermeil: 5 microns

The first year is complimentary, after which the price is adjusted according to the size and specific characteristics of the piece. Each piece is carefully crafted to offer a subtle and timeless glow. Rings, necklaces, bangles or earrings, gilding adds a precious dimension while preserving the delicacy of handcrafted work.
